  2.      The Micro Bridge Companion can be used as a learning tool for beginning bridge players as well as experienced ones. All players can make use of the Baron's recommended bid and play. Beginners and intermediate players will benefit considerably from the bidding flowcharts which show you in detail how the Baron decides on the best bid in a given situation.

  4.      Here are some other suggestions for using the program to improve your game for beginners, intermediate, and expert players. Although these suggestions are grouped according to who might find them most useful, a player at any level may find particular suggestions useful.

  6.  Beginner

  8.      During bidding, select Hand Evaluation from the View menu. This will show the high card points, distribution points, quick tricks and playing tricks for your hand.  You can read what these mean and how they are determined by scrolling through each category. Learning to count your points and tricks is essential to proper bidding.

  10.      Select Auction Interpretation from the View menu during bidding.  This tells you how the Baron interprets the auction so far.  For each hand, suit lengths, high card points, and total points are shown.

  12.      Play deals with all four hands showing. This helps you to recoqnize and understand your opponents' and your partner's strategies.

  17.      Enter and play deals from the newspaper or books. Save these deals in the Personal Play Library so you can retrieve and play them later.

  19.      Work on your declarer or defensive play exclusively. Playing South with Best Hand set to North-South will make you the declarer in most hands, while playing South and giving Best Hand to East-West will let you play defense most of the time.

  21.       Play duplicate bridge against the Baron. After you play the hand, watch the Baron replay it.  Pay attention to the differences, and see who made the better decisions.

  23.       Work on slam bidding by setting Deal Source to Random Slam Hands and Best Hand to North-South. This will generate hands that have a good chance for slam for North-South.

  28.      Use the Personal Play Library to create libraries of deals. You can create different libraries for safety plays, squeezes, coups or anything you wish. Retrieve deals from these libraries to practice the skills each one requires.

  30.      Work with your favorite partner on bidding by making North and South human players. Set Deal Source to Random Part Scores, Random Game Hands, or Random Slam Hands to practice bidding those types of hands.  Further, you can setup specific hand distributions in the Personal Play Library. You can assign the honors and use X's for the little cards to generate the desired hand patterns.

  32.      Play a Bridge Match against the Baron with the Level of Play set to Up to 2 seconds or higher.
